When it was announced that the McCain/Palin campaign was conceding Michigan and further that Governor Palin was not consulted I was flabergasted. This is, I thought, precisely why she was chosen, to appeal to middle class blue collar voters LIKE IN MICHIGAN!!! Michigan is ripe for an appeal to the working class based on the terrible state of their economy brought on by the liberal policies that have dominated there for years not to mention the imprisonment of the former mayer of Detroit. And Sarah is just the one to be able to present the case. As Willie Brown said, "She doesn't represent middle America, she IS middle America". During her debate with Senator Biden this was the glaring demarcation between them. Biden was the typical bloviating D.C. windbag But Sarah was speaking directly to me about things I completely understood. It was the like comparing obfuscation and dissembling to honesty and genuine concern. There was a stark contrast.
In addition to this, the point has been made ad infinitum on the talk shows that McCain is passing up one opportunity after another to hit Obama where he is weakest, Rezko, Ayers, ACORN and most recently the Fannie/Freddie disaster in which Obama is involved up to his neck. Where did all the money come from??? Where did all the money GO??? Obama got over $100,000 from Fannie Mae in the two years he has been in the Senate. He is number three on the list, Kerry and Dodd getting more. But the top receiver, Chris Dodd only got $25,000 more than Obama and he has been receiving it for 20 years. In Chicago, the one executive job Obama can lay clain to, that of dispersing $160,000,000 working with Bill Ayers to effect educational reform, produced no results at all in test scores. My God, this guy is a sitting duck! And yet McCain refuses to go after him apparently because it wouldn't be honorable. Gerald Ford had the same problem and look at the legacy we got from that.
There are many similarities between this election and 1976, loss of faith in the president, a faltering economy and an inexperienced buffoon for an opponent. That election brought us the Islamo-fascist threat. But it also paved the way for Ronaldus Magnus. This time the threats are orders of magnitude greater. Nuclear Iran, growing Soviet influence in South America and Chinese influence in Africa and a totally irresponsible energy policy for twenty years leaving us dependent and vulnerable. I heard an assessment by John Bolton the other day which depressed me for days.
Hopefully McCain will change his mind and send Sarah and Todd Palin into Michigan to attenpt a rescue. And further, he gets a second wind and puts the future of the country ahead of his misplaced sense of honor.
